Our goal is to create programs that help your people become unconsciously competent—to perform proficiently without even thinking about it!


The learning process works like this:

  • Identify areas in which you are unconsciously incompetent: you don’t know what you don’t know. Think of a young child who has never seen someone ride a two-wheeled bike. He doesn’t know what he’s missing.
  • Next the learner becomes consciously incompetent:  you become to know what you don’t know. The child tries to jump on a bicycle and finds he just falls over. But, he knows he has some learning to do.
  • Then the learner becomes consciously competent:  you can now perform the job competently, but you are thinking about the steps ahead of time. The child can now ride the bike, but he’s a little wobbly and needs to remind himself to keep up the speed and stay balanced.
  • Finally the learner reaches the stage of being unconsciously competent:  you are performing the job proficiently without even thinking about it. The child now just jumps on his bike without a second thought and peddles off to join his friends!
